The difference between presence-based education and distance learning

    Get PDF
Attempts to define distance learning always involve comparisons with presence-based education, as the latter is the most direct reference that the former has. It is on this basis that the convergent points, similarities and differences of the two types of approach are established. This article opens with such a comparison, before going on to focus mainly on distance learning and to examine methodological strategies that should be borne in mind when implementing an e-learning system

This article offers a detailed description of the application of technology in translation from a historical perspective, focusing on the field of Computer-Aided Translation (CAT). It accounts for the development of different support tools and brings together a number of proposals that recognise the textual aspect of translation as being a key factor in orientating the design of computer-based technological solutions. From the early 60s until the mid 90s, a broad path is traced showing the evolution of CAT in accordance with the development of terminological data bases, the design of language resource banks, proposals for integrated resource environments, repetition processing in texts, alignment of parallel texts, the design of translation memories and the application of CAT in the field of localization.

AbstractIn this study, concentration and δ13C and δ37Cl values of chloroform (CF) and carbon tetrachloride (CT) measured in groundwater samples are related to redox conditions to elucidate natural attenuation processes in a polluted site. Shifts in δ13C and δ37Cl of CF and CT were detected over time.δ13CCF values found in the potential sources were -34.5 ± 0.6 ‰ (tank near S3 well), -37.3 ± 0.6 ‰ (in a fracture near S1 well) and -46.2± 0.4 ‰ (barrels) in 2004, whereas in later sampling campaigns, δ13CCF enriched values such as -25.2 ± 0.5 ‰ were measured in S3 in 2013. 2D plots (δ13CCFvs δ37ClCF) showed different isotopic patterns in different wells and depths. δ37ClCF values let distinguish that the former sources evolved towards completely different isotopic signatures, whilst δ37ClCF values of +1.3 ± 0.3 ‰ were reached in 2013 for S3,S1 moved towards more depleted δ37ClCF values (down to -3.9 ± 0.6‰). These data indicate that differentreductive dechlorination processes might occur

Premi a l'excel·lència investigadora UAB. 2010Autors llistats per ordre alfabètic. Investigadora principal: A. Hurtado AlbirThe PACTE Group is carrying out empirical-experimental research into translation competence and its acquisition in written translation. The aim of this article is to present the results obtained for the translation competence indicator 'Acceptability' of translation products and the variable "Decision-making" in an experiment involving 35 expert translators and 24 foreign-language teachers. After a presentation of PACTE's theoretical model of Translation Competence, the design of our research project is described (hypothesis, experimental universe and sample, variables, data collection instruments). Then the results obtained for the indicator 'Acceptability' of subjects' translations and, finally, the results obtained for the variable "Decision-making" are presented. This variable evidences decisions made during the translation process which involve the use of automatic and non-automatic cognitive resources (internal support) and the use of different sources of documentation (external support). The indicators used to measure this variable are 'Sequences of Actions' and 'Acceptability'. The results obtained shed light on the strategic and instrumental sub-competences of translation competenc
